To get online with Plant Telecommunications using Windows ME , follow these instructions. These are simple instructions that will work with Windows ME.
 
  1. From the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Dial-Up Networking

  3. Double-click the Make New Connection icon.

  5. In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, type Planttel.Net
  6. Click the down arrow on the Select a device drop-down list and choose your default modem. 
  7. Click the Next button.

  9. In the Area code field, type in your local area code. 
  10. In the Telephone number field, type your local access number. 
  11. Click the Next button.

  13. Click the Finish button.

  15. Now you will see the Planttel.Net icon in the folder.
  16. Click the Planttel.Net icon with your right mouse button, then choose Properties.

  18. Click on the Networking tab. 
  19. Click the down arrow on the Type of Dial-Up Server: drop-down list and choose PPP: Internet, Windows 2000/NT, Windows Me. 
  20. Uncheck all the boxes EXCEPT for Enable software compression and TCP/IP.
  21. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.

  23. Make sure the Server assigned IP address and Specify Name Server Addresses options are both selected.
  24. In the Primary DNS type 206.74.254.2
  25. In the Secondary DNS type 204.116.57.2
  26. Both IP Header Compression and Use Default Gateway on remote network should be checked.

  28. Click OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window.
  29. Click OK to close the "planttel.net" window. 
  30. Click the planttel.net icon with your right mouse button, then choose Create Shortcut.

  32. Now a planttel.net shortcut should be on your desktop and you are now ready to connect to the Internet

  33. Trouble Shooting The Connection 

    Windows ME contains a 32-bit winsock and dialer which enables you to use 32-bit internet applications. Since you are using Windows ME as your operating system, you should be using Dial-Up Networking to make your connection. In order to make sure your connection is OK, you will need to check the Dial-Up Networking settings for your connection. Network settings are also important and will need to be checked as well.   After you view the link you will need to use your back button to return to this page.

    Dial Up Networking:

    • Open the icon named My Computer (double click it). It should be located on your desktop in the upper left hand corner.
    • In that window there will be a folder icon of Dial Up Networking, or if you're using WinME, the Dial Up Networking folder is located in the Control Panel. Double click it to open it.
    • In the Dial Up Networking window will be the icons Make New Connection and an icon for your internet provider.
    • *If when you opened the Dial Up Networking folder a Wizard appeared, go ahead and run thru the program and click on the finished button when done. Proceed to the next step.
    • Click on your internet provider's icon once in order to highlight it.
    • Pull Down the menu File and select Properties
    • The window now opened contains the Phone Number and the Modem that you are using.
    • *Make sure the phone number is correct.
    • *Make sure the modem specified is the type of modem that you have.
    • Click on the Server Type button.
    • *The window should contain the following:
      • PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet
      • Only Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP should be checked off.
    • Click on the TCP/IP Settings button
    • *The windows should contain the following:
      • Server Assigned IP Address should have a dot beside it.
      • Specify Name Server Addresses should have a dot beside it.
      • Primary DNS is 206.74.254.2
      • Secondary DNS is 204.116.57.2
      • Both IP Header Compression and Use Default Gateway on remote network should be checked
    • Click on OK
    • Click on the next OK
    • You should be back to properties window with the Phone number and Modem Type (Connect using:)
    • Click on Configure. - This will configure the modem for your internet dialup only.
    • Normally you should NOT need to configure this,
    • General Tab:
      • Check the Maximum Speed. This should be greater than you modem speed. Most modems are set to 57600. This speed adjustment can improve connections by raising or lowering this value.
      • Volume - Set it to whatever you like.
    • Connection Tab:
      • Data Bits: 8
      • Parity: None
      • Stop Bits: 1
      • Wait for dial tone before dialing should be checked
      • Cancel the call if not connected with 60 seconds should be checked. Make sure the value is 60 or greater.
      • Click on the Port Settings button.
        • Use FIFO buffer should be checked
        • The Receive Buffer: The slider bar should be on the 3rd dot from the right.
        • The Transmit Buffer: The slider bar should be all the way to the right (4th dot from right).
      • Click OK
      • Click on the Advanced button
        • Use error control, Compress Data, Use Flow Control, Hardware (RTS/CTS) should be checked. **Note: Not all modems have this capability. Just check what is available (not greyed out).
        • Modulation should be set to Standard.
        • Extra Settings should be blank (unless you have put in a modem initialization string manually).
      • Click OK
    • Options Tab:
      • Display modem status should be checked.
      • You can dial in manually for testing purposes by checking off bring up terminal window after dialing. Normally this is not necessary.
    • Click OK

    • Click OK - You have now completed checking dial up networking.

      Network Settings:

      • From your Start Button: Click on Settings and over to Control Panel and click on it.
      • In the Control Panel window: Double click on theNetworkicon
      • The only necessary installed components should be:
        • Client for Microsoft Networks
        • Dial-Up Adapter
        • TCP/IP
      • You may have more components especially if you have a network card in your computer
      • Double-click on TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter. If yours just says TCP/IP that's OK.
        • IP AddressTab - Dot should be beside Obtain IP Address Automatically
        • WINS Configuration Tab - Dot should be beside Disable WINS resolution
        • Gateway Tab - There should be NO numbers in any field.
        • DNS ConfigurationTab - DNS should be enabled (a dot beside Enabled)
          • Host = your username
          • Domain =yourprovider'sname (Example:  planttel.net)
          • DNS Server Search Order
            • 206.74.254.2
            • 204.116.57.2
        • Advanced Tab - Property should be set to None
        • BindingsTab - All should be checked.
      • Click OK.
      • Click OK at Network Properties.

      • A window will appear advising you to restart your computer - Restart your computer - Click Yes
